We’re the Slavens—Mike and Gidget—and we’ve been proudly raising AKC French Bulldogs since 2018. What started as a passion has grown into a full-time, family-based breeding program rooted in love, care, and compassion. We have a beautifully blended family with five children and two precious grandchildren. Our family is a big part of everything we do at Waters Edge.

💛 A Little About Us

I, Gidget, have had the honor and privilege of being a Kentucky Licensed Funeral Director for six years, where I cared for families and their loved ones with deep compassion. I’ve also served as a Deputy Coroner and owned a pet boarding facility. My heart has always been devoted to helping and nurturing others—people and animals alike.

Mike is a hardworking man of many hats—a skilled industrial worker of 20+ years and an incredibly talented craftsman. Together, we bring dedication and heart to everything we do, especially when it comes to French Bulldogs.

We are a Registered Licensed Business, and our dogs are our family. They live in our home, share in our daily life, and are loved beyond measure.

🌅 Why "Waters Edge"?

We’re blessed to call Southern Kentucky home, surrounded by nature and breathtaking views of the lake on our property. The name “Waters Edge” was inspired not just by the view and our home—but by someone incredibly special: my Papaw, Jimmy Waters. My Papaw was also a Kentucky Licensed Mortician, a Kentucky Colonel, and owned a funeral home for 40 years alongside my Granny Max serving our community. He was a gospel singer in a group called "Hid in the Rock" with his brothers and was the youngest of 16 children. He was a father figure to me, and I miss him dearly. The lake holds a special place in my heart and is a place where I feel connected to his memory. 

He loved this land, this life, and he left a lasting mark on our hearts.
Naming our program Waters Edge French Bulldogs LLC is my tribute to him—a way to keep his memory and legacy alive. This October marks four years since he went to heaven, and not a day goes by that we don’t miss him deeply.

🐶 Our Breeding Philosophy

We take great care when selecting breeding pairs, prioritizing:

• Structure

• Health

• Temperament

• DNA and Color Quality

We feed only Life’s Abundance premium dog food, filtered water, and also add Raw Food Toppers from Munster Milling Co. to enhance their nutrition. Our puppies are raised right in our home with early neurological stimulation, crate and potty training, and plenty of love and socialization—including help from our children! All puppies are sold with a spay/neuter contract (Limited AKC). Breeding rights may be considered for approved homes or programs.

🐶 The Reality of Raising Frenchies

French Bulldogs are a rare, and expensive to breed. Behind the cuteness is a lot of hard work: we devote a lot of time, energy, and funds into this amazing rare and fun breed.

• Progesterone testing ( blood draws for ovulation timing) 

• C-sections

• Health testing

• Special care & nutrition

• 24/7 supervision

But it’s all worth it. We do it because we love this breed, and we want to preserve and better it by placing healthy, happy puppies in loving homes.

Frenchie’s are expensive and we devote a lot of time, energy, and funds into this amazing rare and fun breed. We do artificial insemination, C-sections, health testing, lots of vitamins for our pregnant momma's and 24/7 care to our new puppies’, the process can be very time-consuming. Raising French Bulldogs it is not an easy task, however it’s always rewarding and we truly love what we do.  Our reputation as a trusted, reputable breeder is evident in every puppy that we provide.
