We’re the Slavens—Mike and Gidget—and we’ve been proudly raising AKC French Bulldogs since 2018. What started as a passion has grown into a full-time, family-based breeding program rooted in love, care, and compassion. We have a beautifully blended family with five children and three precious grandchildren. Our family is a big part of everything we do at Waters Edge.

 A Little About Us

I, Gidget, have had the honor and privilege of being a Kentucky Licensed Funeral Director for six years, where I cared for families and their loved ones with deep compassion. I’ve also served as a Deputy Coroner and owned a pet boarding facility. My heart has always been devoted to helping and nurturing others—people and animals alike. Mike is a hardworking man of many hats—a skilled industrial worker of 20+ years and an incredibly talented craftsman. Together, we bring dedication and heart to everything we do, especially when it comes to French Bulldogs. Waters Edge French Bulldogs LLC is a registered Kentucky business, and our dogs are first and foremost part of our family.

🌅 Why "Waters Edge"?

We’re blessed to call Southern Kentucky home, surrounded by nature and breathtaking views of the lake on our property. The name “Waters Edge” was inspired not just by the view and our home—but by someone incredibly special: my Papaw, Jimmy Waters. My Papaw was also a Kentucky Licensed Mortician, a Kentucky Colonel, and owned a funeral home for 40 years alongside my Granny Max serving our community. He was a gospel singer in a group called "Hid in the Rock" with his brothers and was the youngest of 16 children. He was a father figure to me, and I miss him dearly. The lake holds a special place in my heart and is a place where I feel connected to his memory. 

He loved this land, this life, and he left a lasting mark on our hearts.
Naming our program Waters Edge French Bulldogs LLC is my tribute to him—a way to keep his memory and legacy alive. This October marks five years since he went to heaven, and not a day goes by that we don’t miss him deeply.

🐶 Our Breeding Philosophy

We take great care when selecting breeding pairs, prioritizing:

​Structure • Health • Temperament • Genetics

We believe proper nutrition plays an important role in giving our dogs and puppies the best possible start. We feed Muenster Milling Co. premium dog food, provide fresh filtered water, and incorporate quality nutritional toppers when appropriate. Our puppies are raised right in our home with Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), structured enrichment, early crate and litter box training, and plenty of hands-on love and socialization—including lots of interaction with our family. All puppies are sold with a spay/neuter contract (Limited AKC). Breeding rights may be considered for approved homes or programs.

🐾 The Reality of Raising Frenchies
Raising French Bulldogs responsibly requires an extraordinary amount of time, planning, veterinary care, and hands-on dedication. Behind those adorable faces is a breeding process that includes:

• Artificial insemination
• Progesterone testing and careful breeding timing
• C-sections 
• Health and genetic testing
• Specialized nutrition and care
• Around-the-clock supervision of mothers and newborn puppies

It is a tremendous commitment, but one we truly love. Our goal is to give every puppy the healthiest, happiest start possible and prepare them for a lifetime with their family.
